Literacy Upgrading Programs
One-on-one Tutorials
Our volunteer tutors will work one-on-one with you to assist you in meeting your literacy goals.
Our services are free and confidential; we are here to help you.
Tutors use a variety of individualized learning strategies to assist you in comfortably learning the skills you need.
Small Group Instruction
If you want to train for a better job, upgrade your education, or improve yourself this may be the right program for you.
Here students come together in groups of 6-8 to upgrade their skills for independence, higher education and employment. Groups are facilitated by volunteers and staff.
We offer flexible hours, continuous entry (this means you can keep taking our classes until you achieve the success you are looking for), individualized assessment and helpful, courteous staff.
Our staff and volunteers work with you to assist you in developing a personal academic plan based on your individual goals and existing skills.
Computer-based Literacy Skills Upgrading
Literacy students can upgrade their literacy and computer skills through an interactive educational program that provides a variety of curriculum-based activities and tests to enhance literacy skills.
Employment Readiness Training
Basic Computer Training
Community members can access up-to-date computer training in basic computer operation, internet, email and MS office applications for a small fee.
This self-paced, audio based skills-building program is available onsite where we have friendly and knowledgeable staff trained to assist you in your learning journey. Certificates are available on successful completion of courses.

Ready for Work
Whether you are preparing for your first job, looking to advance your career, or re-entering the workplace our Ready for Work program may be right for you.
This program:
- Teaches job preparation and retention skills needed for career advancement
- Uses ‘real world’ examples to reinforce learning
- Is a computer-based program, allowing you to learn at your own pace
- Uses audio and game format to aid learning
- Is a York Region funded project, presented at no cost to the participant
